Catering for disabilities

cruises catering for disabilities

If you are a disabled cruiser it is important to discuss any concerns you may have about cruising at an early stage, to put your mind at rest and make sure you are fully catered for.

Cruise lines are a lot wiser about how to cater for disabled passengers now, with a number of cabins allocated for disabled cruisers, normally from inside state rooms to suites. Most cruise lines would prefer passengers who would normally require assistance in every day duties to be accompanied by an able bodied passenger.

Accessibility at ports changes from port to port which is an important aspect to consider if passengers have to tender ashore as this will be slightly more difficult. However, many of these smaller boats used to tender can carry wheelchair users.

Similarly, most cruise lines cater for the visually or hearing impaired with deck numbers inside lifts and cabin numbers in Braille along with the option of the dinner menu being in Braille and alert kits for guests with hearing impairments which can be fitted to any cabin.
