Alaska
Alaska is a place where wildlife outnumbers people and the scope of the landscape is breathtaking. Grizzly bears and moose wander freely in the wilderness and icebergs crash together in the tidewater, this is every part as dramatic as the films make it seem.
An Alaskan cruise is one to plan carefully so you can make sure you don’t miss a single thing this amazing destination has to offer, as every port of call is full of history and culture. ‘The Great Land’ is divided into five regions; Inside Passage, Southcentral, Interior, Far North and Southwest.
Inside Passage
Millions of years ago, glaciers shaped Alaska’s Inside Passage which now boasts fjords full of wildlife. Here you can watch sea lions, eagles and whales basking in their natural habitat.
Southcentral
Southcentral is home to half of Alaska’s population with activities such as fishing for rainbow trout and salmon, and hiking taking priority over the rush of life as we know it. With all the advantage of the wilderness but the safety of the roads which link it together, Southcentral serves as the gateway into the wild.
Southwest
Here is home to the famous brown bears of Alaska, who roam amongst over 240 species of birds. Katmai National Park was created by the eruption of the Novarupta volcano in 1912, and reaching 1000 miles out to sea towards Asia are the Aleutian Islands.
Interior
The winter’s Northern Lights are a major attraction for cruisers here, plus the midnight sunshine during summer. Alaska’a heartland is home to the grizzly bear and herds of caribou, and the highway between Fairbanks and Anchorage provides the perfect viewing spot to see all the wildlife the Interior region has to offer.
Far North
Alaska’s Far North region is home to the Inupiat Eskimos who preserve their lifestyle and history from generation to generation. It’s history and natural wonder is rich with the gold rush days and the Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve.
